Legacy Board members present check to Eagle Nest, Inc.

EAGLE NEST, INC. $1,500 Grant.  The Legacy Foundation presented Eagle Nest, Inc. staff and volunteers with a $1,500 check to assist with the “That’s a Crock!” program after receiving the grant request earlier this month.  “That’s a Crock!” is a program Eagle Nest, Inc. conducts in conjunction with Kansas State Extension to teach healthy cooking to families.


 

Kids Impact Cowley County students from four area schools learn more about philanthropy and participate in a grant-making cycle within their school. Here a group brainstorms what they like about their hometowns.


Walnut Valley Trail Builders receive grant funds

WALNUT VALLEY TRAIL BUILDERS. $5,205 Grant.  The Legacy Foundation presented Walnut Valley Trail Builders volunteers with a $5,205 check.  The grant funds provide for construction of a sidewalk required by the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) that connects a parking area with the trail-head in addition to signage directing people to and through the two new trails.




Arkansas City School Enhancement Fund (ACE) The ACE Fund is invested with Legacy Foundation. It awards numerous scholarships as well as teacher grants each year.

Young Philanthropist’s Scholarship Recipent

Savannah Dennett, a 2015 graduate of Winfield High School, is the 2016 recipient of the Young Philanthropist’s Scholarship, provided by The Power of the Purse (POP).  The scholarship is intended to encourage young adults to actively include philanthropy as a valuable part of life.    Cowley County Power of the Purse is an organization of women who donate annually for a fund to benefit the community and has a mission to better the lives of women and children. Established in 2007 with Legacy Regional Community Foundation, POP operates by combining membership contributions to form a pool of funds from which grants are awarded.



Students in Central Burden schools are using a new plasma torch in their Power Structure (welding shop) pathway. It was purchased in part with funds from the Mikesell Family Foundation that passed through Legacy as the local agent to Central and two other schools.






Winfield Middle School students have raised money for Habitat for Humanity with an annual potato bar fundraiser for over 10 years. Legacy matches their proceeds to increase the impact of their efforts and encourage this fabulous example of community action.


 
  

Belle Plaine Community Foundation.  Nine Belle Plaine community members participated in the first Belle Plaine Leadership Class in 2016.
