Central Burden and Sedan High School Students Awarded Scholarships

Winfield, KS, May 22, 2013 — Ten high school students from Central of Burden USD 462 and Chautauqua County Community USD 286 high schools have received scholarships from funds invested with Legacy Regional Community Foundation.

From USD 286 in Sedan, Kansas, Lindsay Jones, Cheyenne Kline, Sterling Pray and Jared Usry are recipients of the Fred and Betty Travis Scholarship. Jones will attend Indiana University to study International Business. Kline will attend University of Missouri to study Journalism and Political Science. Pray will attend Southwestern College to study Athletic Training with a minor in Biology. Usry will attend Cowley County Community College to study Nursing. Melissa Miller, a 2012 graduate, also received an award from the Travis Scholarship. She is a student at Kansas State University where she is studying Agribusiness.

Jared Usry is also the recipient of the Madlyn Root Scholarship.

Timothy Miller is the recipient of the Robert Warrender Scholarship for Sedan. He will attend Kansas State University to study Architecture.

From Central of Burden, Austin Mettling and Cameron Wingert are the recipients of the Hanna and Francis Jabara Scholarship. Mettling will attend Sterling College to study Christian Ministries. Wingert will attend Cowley County Community College to study Business.

Kasey Biddle and Whitney Nickel are the recipients of the Orville Bair Scholarship. Biddle will attend Fort Hays State University to study Physical Therapy. Nickel will attend Cowley County Community College to study Nursing.

Scholarships decisions were made by committees from within each high school from a pool of submitted applications.
