Lawson to perform at Legacy Foundation event Oct. 4

Emily Lawson, a graduate of Arkansas City High School, will perform at Legacy Foundation’s 20th Anniversary “birthday party” on October 4, 2016. Lawson is currently studying music education and voice at Friends University in Wichita. Lawson is a recipient of the Warrender Scholarship through Legacy Foundation. “We are thrilled to have Emily performing at our party,” stated Yazmin Wood, Executive Director of Legacy Foundation, “it is wonderful to have the opportunity to showcase her talent and share the story of the impact that giving through Legacy Foundation has on the people, especially children, of our area.”

Mr. Robert (Bob) Warrender was born and raised in Ashton, Kansas. Warrender attended Arkansas City High School and Wichita State University. Following graduation, Warrender taught band and music for 36 years in Kansas schools with most of those years spent in Sedan (KS). Warrender had many, many students over the years. He was well-respected and loved. The first Warrender Scholarship was established in 2007 following his passing. The Warrender Scholarships were established for graduating seniors who have been in high school music for four years with priority given toward individuals majoring in music education.

Legacy Regional Community Foundation will celebrate 20 years of incorporation as a regional community foundation with a birthday party on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Wright Room at Cowley College in Arkansas City. Great Western Dining will cater the dinner. To celebrate 20 years, the scrumptious dinner is just $20.00. Reservations are required. Steve Coen, President and CEO of the Kansas Health Foundation, has agreed to provide a keynote message for the event.

Legacy Foundation is a 501(c) 3 non-profit philanthropic organization incorporated in September 1996 by a volunteer board of directors. Legacy has endowed funds of over $4.7 million and has, since 2000, received contributions totaling more the $8 million distributing nearly $3 million in grants.
