Winfield, KS, August 5, 2013 – The Power of the Purse – a women’s giving circle established with Legacy Regional Community Foundation – will celebrate a $100,000 giving milestone in the coming months.
Established in 2007, the Power of the Purse (POP) has given out just over $90,000 to date. In October, the voting membership will award this year’s grants, raising that total to over $100,000.
“The Power of the Purse demonstrates the impact that is possible from combined resources,” say Winfield CPA Patty Neises, POP’s president. “Last year’s membership neared 40 women and their contributions created a large pool of funds for the grants that were given out in this community.”
Every POP member makes at least a $400 annual contribution. Because POP is held with Legacy, Legacy’s charitable status makes the membership contributions tax-deductible. The contributions are combined to form a fund from which the membership awards grants.
Some of the organizations that POP has awarded grants to are the Community Learning Center, Cowley County Human Society, the Cowley Cares Coalition, Family Life Services and Safe Homes among other organizations.
For membership information, please contact the Legacy office at (620) 221-7224. POP established a new membership level at the $200 mark for women 40 and under.
