Legacy Foundation to celebrate 20 years with event

Arkansas City/Winfield, KS: Happy Birthday to YOU! Legacy Regional Community Foundation will celebrate 20 years of incorporation as a regional community foundation with a birthday party on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Wright Room at Cowley College in Arkansas City. Great Western Dining will cater the dinner. To celebrate 20 years, the scrumptious dinner is just $20.00. Reservations are required.
Legacy Foundation is a 501(c) 3 non-profit philanthropic organization incorporated in September 1996 by a volunteer board of directors. Legacy has endowed funds of $4.7 million and has, since 2000, received contributions totaling more the $8 million distributing nearly $3 million in grants.
“Birthdays are for remembering and dreaming,” said Legacy Executive Director, Yazmin Wood, “the board of directors is excited to celebrate everyone that has made the work of the foundation possible. This is an evening to hear some of the impact the gifts and work of the last 20 years has made through Legacy Foundation and learn what’s next. We are launching a year of celebration. And, we are excited Steve Coen of the Kansas Health Foundation (KHF) has agreed to provide a keynote message for our event!”
Steve Coen has served as president and CEO of the Kansas Health Foundation since August 2008. In addition to his professional experiences, Coen served as chair of the Governor’s Council on Fitness, and is a member of the Leadership Council of the Greater Wichita Economic Development Coalition.
Coen’s idea to develop a physically-active, healthy lifestyle course for high school students earned him a national award from the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD). He also received the 21st Century Community Champion Award, given by the American Association of Family and Consumer Science to individuals who have made a significant contribution toward strengthening families.
The Kansas Health Foundation was established following the 1985 sale of Wesley Medical Center. With a $200 million endowment and a focus on improving the health of all Kansans, the Kansas Health Foundation set out to make a difference across the state. The Kansas Health Foundation focuses its work in two primary areas: Civic Health and Health Equity. Our region has benefited greatly from the work and generosity of the Kansas Health Foundation both in direct grants to area organizations and through participation in KHF programs such as those that transformed Leadership Cowley County and further developed Legacy Foundation.
